I just saw an advertisement on Facebook for a fitness club that said it “provides a comfortable environment…”
What the fark is the matter with people, especially so-called fitness professionals?! Didn’t anyone give them the heads-up that discomfort is how you change? Doing things that are challenging in order to improve yourself is sometimes going to hurt, make you sweat, piss you off, question what you think you know, discover how much you really want “it” and what you have to do to get it.
I’m beginning to understand the Buddhist take on this, that life is suffering. It’s not a negative view of the world, merely a way of seeing the reality and importance of struggle, and to take enjoyment in the rare moments of rest we are afforded. If you want an easy life, try it and see how much you stagnate and wither.
You will only grow if you get out of the comfort zones you defend so strongly. If I only did what was comfortable during my workouts and movement sessions, in my farking LIFE, I’d never ever change or improve.
Buckle up, folks. There’s no strength without struggle (yes, I do have that tattooed on my forearm). But you’ll live and it’ll be okay. Anyone that says different isn’t worth listening to.
This wasn’t really meant to be a rant, but it sort of took on a ranty life of it’s own. I guess I needed to get it out there so thank you for reading it. Feel free to share your take on this.
